  • 12/13/07 - 2007 LID Board Election Results. We are delighted to announce the results of the 2007 LID Board elections that will fill three two-year Board vacancies:  Treasurer, Vice President of Education, and Secretary. Julio L. Guerrero was elected to serve as Treasurer, Nalani McClendon was elected to serve as Vice President of Education, and Eric B. Lugo was elected to serve as Secretary. Please join us in congratulating Julio and Nalani, who are continuing their current role with LID, and welcoming our newest LID Board member Eric!
  • 5/4/07 - LID in Hispanic Business Article. In the May 2007 issue of Hispanic Business, an article entitled, "Building the Foundation," talks about the state and challenges of Latino philanthropy in the United States and mentions LID's history and recent board establishment, as well as LID's efforts to increase the number of Latino donors via the annual Latino Community Donor Awards.

  PAST EVENTS:
  • 12/7/07 -10th Annual Latino Community Donor Awards. This sold out annual event is developed collaboratively by LID and Chicago Latinos in Philanthropy (CLIP) to honor Latino donors from the Chicagoland area who make financial contributions to Latino or Latino-serving nonprofit organizations. The event honored a mother and daughter, Mona and Gloria Castillo; a couple, Jesse and Michele Ruiz; and a philanthropic vehicle, Latino Giving Circle and Nuestro Futuro Fund, initiatives of The Chicago Community Trust. The event also featured guest speaker Henry A. J. Ramos, a well-known speaker on Latino philanthropy who has written extensively on various issues related to organized philanthropy and civil society.  National Museum of Mexican Art, 1852 W. 19th Street, Chicago, 6PM - 10PM, $35 in advance/$45 at the door.   • 11/8/07 -LID Annual Event. This annual event celebrated LID's 2007 accomplishments. Guests enjoyed food and beverages while meeting and networking with Latino fundraising professionals and friends of LID. Elections for 2008 board positions also took place. Café Aorta, 2002 W. 21st Street, 5:30pm. Free for LID members. Pictures will be posted soon.
  • 10/19/07 - Breakin' It Down 5 Conference. This annual one day conference is developed collaboratively by LID, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP), Blacks in Development (BID), Chicago African Americans in Philanthropy (CAAIP), and Chicago Latinos in Philanthropy (CLIP). The event includes six workshops, a luncheon, speed networking with corporation and foundation program officers, and a networking social. Loyola University Chicago, 25 E.   • 9/20/07 - Funding and Giving in U.S. Latino Communities: A Chicago Case Study. This event featured a discussion with two key philanthropic players in the Chicago metropolitan region.  Margo DeLey, a former foundation program officer, and Maria Bechily, a trustee with The Chicago Community Trust, discussed the groundbreaking study conducted by The Chicago Community Trust (CCT) on giving to Latino communities in Chicago and the strategies developed by the CCT in response to the study.   • 6/12/07 - Philanthropy and Ethnicity in the United States. This event featured a presentation on philanthropy and ethnicity in the U.S. by Juan Avila, Vice President, Senior Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch, and Nora Moreno Cargie, Director, Global Corporate Citizenship, The Boeing Company.
